How to Reset the Default Browser Choice in Android

▶ About this video: This video shows you how to clear the default browser in devices running Android Oreo (8.0, 8.1.0), Nougat (7.0), Marshmallow (6.0) and possibly Pie (9.0).

HOW THIS WORKS
The reset process involves going to the App & notification settings and first establishing the current default browser app by checking the Default Apps settings which is accessed by expanding the Advanced settings.

After doing this, we open this particular browser in the installed apps page and clear all its defaults in the Open by default options. This resets the default browser choice while leaving the browsers data and other configuration intact.

The browser category under the Default apps settings will revert to NONE with none of the currently installed browsers checked.

Doing this will also restore the Open with pop up window that appears when opening links from other apps. This pop up prompts the user to open a link with any of the installed browsers with the option to either use it JUST ONCE or ALWAYS. Selecting ALWAYS will automatically set the selected app as the default browser as shown in the video.

TIP: Installing a new browser or uninstalling the default browser will also reset the default browser. There are some quirks to this though: journeybytes.com/2018/02/how-to-reset-default-b…

Kindly note that menus and their respective wordings will vary depending on the android version and/or the device manufacturer. This tutorial was recorded on a Xiaomi Redmi Go running a stock (vanilla) version of Android Oreo 8.1.0.
