In this video we explain how to prepare for penalty shots for goalkeepers. When it comes to blocking penalty kicks, the goalkeeper must have his feet on the goal line. Some referees will allow the keeper to place his heel on the line, while others won't allow it.

Once you're into your goalkeeper's stance, you must pay close attention to the players body posture. You want to look at where he places his foot and body right before he makes contact with the ball, so that you can use your quick reflexes to dive on the correct side and make the save.

As you're getting ready for his penalty shot, you must remain active and ready by staying on your tiptoes, ready to dive explosively on either sides.

For goalkeepers, one important aspect of saving penalty shots is to always stay positive and remember that a save can be achieved. It's crucial for a soccer goalkeeper to have a strong and positive mindset at all times. Some goals will go in, but it's important to not get discouraged and be ready for the next play.
