The GE Café RPWFE filter is a twist-and-pull design that's easy to confuse with similar GE models — make sure you have the RPWFE (not RPWF or MWF). Here's the swap in under 3 minutes.

THE DIFFERENCE: RPWFE has an RFID chip on the side that communicates with the dispenser. Generic filters without the chip will install but the dispenser display may show "Replace Filter" indefinitely.
STEP-BY-STEP:
1. Locate the filter in the upper right corner of the refrigerator interior
2. Push in slightly and turn counterclockwise 1/4 turn to release
3. Pull straight out
4. Insert new RPWFE filter and turn clockwise until it clicks and locks
5. Flush 2 gallons through the dispenser before drinking
PRO TIP: Replace every 6 months or 300 gallons — whichever comes first. Old filters don't just stop filtering — they can harbor bacteria.
