Step # 1 - Access the Command Prompt
An option is to use the command prompt. Press the “Windows” + “R” key combination to bring up a run box.
Step # 2 - Access the Wireless Network Adapter window
Now you need to access the “Wireless Network Adapter” window. To do so type this command: “ncpa.cpl” and hit enter. When your network connection opens, right click on your wireless network adapter and select “Properties” from the options.
Step # 3 - Allow other devices to use your machine’s Internet
Go to the “Sharing” tab and allow other devices to use your machine’s Internet by selecting the first checkbox and then unchecking the second before clicking on the “OK” button.
Step # 4 - Set up the wireless network
Now you’ll need to set up the wireless network. To do so you need to access the command prompt as administrator. Right-click on the bottom left of your screen to launch an administrative command prompt. Then type this command:
“netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid="How-To " key="Pa$$w0rd"
“Ssid” should be the name of your network and “key” is the password you want users to connect with.
Step # 5 - Start broadcasting your network
Now you can start broadcasting your network. Type the next line: “netsh wlan start hostednetwork”
Step # 6 - A second option - Download and Install Virtual Router Plus
A second option is to use “Virtual Router Plus”, a free utility that adds WiFi hotspot capabilities to Windows 8. First, go to this link: “www.sourceforge.net/projects/virtualrouterpl" and click the “Download latest release” button. Once the application is downloaded, open the setup and follow the instruction to install.
Step # 7 - Use Virtual Router Plus
Now open the program and give your network a name. Enter a password to keep freeloaders out. Finally, choose the connection you want to share, which is probably whatever appears as the default.
Click “Start Virtual Router Plus.” After a few moments you should be able to detect your new network from your phone, tablet, or even another PC. And that’s it!
Result: Congratulations! You’ve just learned How to Share Internet Connection in Windows 8.
