I had troubles myself when I first tried to update my Smart Mirror- and after a lot of research and searching around and re-installing my whole smart mirror- I finally found the answer, so I just wanted to make a useful tutorial so nobody else makes the same mistake I did when trying to update the magic mirror library on my raspberry pi and raspbian OS.

FYI: Skip past the first minute to get right to the terminal update- and read below if the text is hard to read. Make sure to also check out my other videos and guides on my website.

if you ever need to update the mirror later on, you’ll get a warning/alert at the top, and to update it in the future, just do this:

git pull && npm install

Also, if you’re having any weird issues with updating the magic mirror and getting an issue with the package-lock.json file… Very annoying, I know. What you need to do is go into the MagicMirror directory you created. The directory is likely /home/pi/MagicMirror – then instead of doing git pull && npm install, you want to run this command:

git reset --hard; git clean -df;

Then run this: git pull && npm install
