How to Type Accented Characters on a Mac | Mac Basics

Hi. Lisa here. I'm going to show you how to use special characters on your keyboard on your Mac. So right now I have note opened and I want to write that I need to meet my friend at a café. When I get to the E on the café, I want to accent it. So instead of just pressing down once on the key, I want to press and hold. It would give me options and I can choose the number that corresponds with the one I'd like. So in this case I want option number two. So I hit two and it puts in that accent for me. Now you can also do something like tilde in Spanish. So if I want to write mañana, I'll write M-A and then I hold down the N, I can the one with the tilde and then I can finish off the work. So here you go. That's how you use special characters on your keyboard on your Mac.
