Text pasted flat onto a photo rarely looks convincing, but with the right technique it can look genuinely printed on the surface. Today we're adding a quote to a book cover in Photoshop using perspective transforms, displacement maps, and lighting to make the text look truly photo-realistic.

We'll warp text into perspective with a Smart Object, use a displacement map built from the book's own texture to reshape the letters, paint in highlights and shadows, and bring the surface texture back through the text itself.

CHAPTERS
00:00 Adding Realistic Text to Any Object
02:19 Typing and Converting to a Smart Object
04:16 Warping Text into Perspective
06:00 Building a Displacement Map
08:10 Applying the Displacement and Blur
10:07 Painting Highlights and Shadows
12:00 Bringing Texture Through the Text
14:04 Adding Bevel and Emboss for Depth

THE STEPS
1. Type your text, then convert the layer to a Smart Object so it can be transformed and use Smart Filters
2. Hold Control/Command and drag the corner handles to warp the text into your image's perspective
3. Enhance your surface's texture with a Levels adjustment layer, then save that as a separate file to use as a displacement map
4. Apply Filter, Distort, Displace using that saved file so the surface's texture reshapes the text's edges
5. Add a small Gaussian Blur to soften the displaced edges for a more realistic look
6. Paint sampled highlight and shadow colors on clipped layers so the text reads as lit from one side
7. Duplicate and desaturate your background layer, clip it to the text, and set it to Soft Light so the surface texture shows through the letters
8. Finish with a subtle Bevel and Emboss layer style for a bit of raised depth
