Ever wanted to change the words in a photo, like a sign, a billboard, or in this case a set of Scrabble tiles? We take a "See the World" tile photo and rebuild it, letter by letter, to say "See the Beauty" instead — no original texture needed.
We rebuild a clean wood texture with the Healing Brush, warp new letters into perfect tile-shaped perspective with Free Transform, then use bevel, emboss, and outer glow to make the new letters look like they were carved in the tiles all along.
CHAPTERS
0:00 Overview: Change Letters in a Photo
1:13 Erase the Existing Letters First
1:42 Sample a Clean Wood Texture
2:23 Paint In Texture With the Healing Brush
5:07 Clone Stamp an Extra Blank Tile
6:12 Type New Letters and Match the Size
6:33 Build Perspective Guides with a Square
7:17 Warp Each Letter into Perspective
11:09 Clean Up the Perspective Guides
12:03 Add Blur, Bevel, and Outer Glow
THE STEPS
1. Bring in a clean texture (like matching wood grain) to cover the existing letters
2. Set the Healing Brush to sample the current layer and below, then paint in the texture
3. Rotate and scale the sampled texture with Free Transform to match the grain direction
4. Clone stamp an extra blank tile if your new word needs more letters than the original
5. Type each new letter and center it inside a colored square sized to the tile
6. Group the letter and square, then use perspective warp (Cmd/Ctrl+T) to match the tile's angle
7. Duplicate and warp each letter separately since every tile has a different perspective
8. Hide the guide squares, leaving just the warped letters in place
9. Add a slight Gaussian Blur, then Bevel & Emboss and Outer Glow so the letters look carved in
