Description from the creator

Installing a hardwired smoke detector requires connecting 3 wires: black (hot), white (neutral), and red (interconnect) — here's exactly how to do it safely and correctly.

Hardwired smoke detectors are more reliable than battery-only units and are required in most new construction and renovation projects. The red wire is the interconnect — when one detector triggers, all connected detectors alarm simultaneously. This is a critical safety feature. Most homes have 3-4 detectors on one interconnect circuit. Before starting: cut power at the breaker and verify it's off with a multimeter.

TOOLS USED:
→ KAIWEETS Digital Multimeter TRMS 6000 Counts: amzn.to/3CSgpQj
→ DEWALT 20V MAX Cordless Impact Driver Kit (DCF787C2): amzn.to/3GAb94M

Steps: cut power → remove old detector → note the 3-wire configuration → connect matching wires on new detector → mount bracket → twist on detector → restore power → test.

PRO TIP: Test the interconnect after install by pressing the test button — every other hardwired detector in the house should alarm within 5 seconds. If they don't, the red wire isn't connected properly.
