Mochitsuki usually takes place around the end of December or early January to celebrate the new year, but the practice has been lost, even in Japan, due to technological innovations that make making mochi easier. However, making mochi this way gives it a texture no machine could ever recreate. This video is an effort to make sure this tradition never dies.
