Front Handspring Tutorial - Fit for a Feast
ChannelFit For A FeastDescription from the creator
fitforafeast.com Front handspring tutorial - Katrina, Sloane and Alexx give tips on how to do a front hand spring. Front hand springs are not as hard as back handsprings, but always practice them on a soft surface - like a mat or grass.
It is always best to try these at a gym or with a coach/trainer, so you don't get hurt. Make sure you are physically fit and have some basic gymnastic skills before attempting these. It is also good to have a spotter who can help you get over/ keep you from falling. Here is a video on spotting: youtube.com/watch?v=qh-NMYbNgPc
It helps to have a flexibile back to do any of these moves and you should always make sure your muscles are warmed up before you start. Here is a back stretches video: youtube.com/watch?v=1oILV_z5nFM
It also helps if you have your back bend recovery - as it can help you recover from these front walkovers and front handsprings as well. Check out our tutorial: ://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8JWgwZ_4Qc
This is a general warmup you can do before starting gymnastics (or dance, cheer, sports, etc): youtube.com/watch?v=E7mA6g-O6Nc
Some people like to learn front handsprings on a trampoline. It is easier to do them that way since you already have the bounce from the trampoline for momentum. It helps you learn the mechanics - but then you have to 'relearn' when you are doing them on the floor, since you won't have that extra bounce. You need to bend your knees and use the floor to push off and give you momentum. Once you are able to do the front handspring and get fully over and recover, you can start working on technique. These look best if you can stretch out your body and legs - keeping your feet pointed when they are in the air.
