[INTRO]: In this video, I will explain the different format utilities of your Aleratec USB HDD Copy Tower SA duplicator.

[Formatting overview]
Your Aleratec USB HDD SA duplicator includes a utility to format USB drives, which is found in the Utilities menu, under the submenu “Do Format”. You will see three formatting options: Auto Format, FAT16 and FAT32.

[Auto Format]
The Auto Format option automatically formats your USB drives without having to select the format type before formatting. When this feature is used, the controller will check the existing format and capacity size of the target drives to select the appropriate format automatically. If the drive is already formatted with FAT16 or FAT32, the duplicator will erase all the existing data from the drive, keeping the format intact. If the drives have another format, such as exFAT, NTFS, Linux, Mac OS Extended, etc., the duplicator will then check the capacity. If the capacity is less than 2GB, the FAT16 format will be used. If the capacity is 2GB or larger, the FAT32 format will be used.

[FAT16 Format]
The FAT16 Format option should only be used on drive capacities that are less than 2GB.

[FAT32 Format]
The FAT32 Format option should only be used on drive capacities that are 2GB or larger.

[Formatting procedure]
Insert your target USB drives and use the arrow buttons to select the Utility menu and press OK. Select “Do Format” and press OK. Use an arrow button to select either “1. Auto Format”, “2. FAT16 Format” or “3. FAT32 Format” and press OK. You will be prompted with “Do FORMAT Confirm?” Press the OK button to confirm and start the formatting process and the LED’s will begin flashing. As the formatting process progresses, the screen will display an increasing amount of drives that have passed or failed. The LED indicator lights on each target drive port will display a solid green light for passed drives and a solid red light for failed drives. To format additional drives, simply remove the formatted drives and insert a new round of drives that need to be formatted. When the formatting process is complete, the lights will stop flashing, the Format counter will read 0 and will display a count of how many drives have passed or failed. You may then use the arrow buttons to scroll through the drive port numbers to display the format status. When you have finished formatting, press the ESC button a few times to return to the main menu.
