Hello, my name is Chris. In this video, I will show you how to use the Aleratec PortaCruiser as a hard drive dock.

Connect the provided USB cable to the appropriate USB port on your computer and then to your PortaCruiser. Connect the power adapter to the PortaCruiser and to an appropriate power outlet. Connect your SATA HDD or SSD drives to the SATA connectors. If you are using IDE drives, use the appropriate cables and connectors, which can be purchased separately (P/N: 240146). Make sure your IDE drives jumper settings are set to Master. Slide the power switch to the “ON” position and you should hear a beep. The duplicator will initialize and should briefly display that it has found devices, 1 or 2, depending on how may drives you have connected properly. When the display shows: “1. Copy HDD”, the duplicator is ready for enabling the USB mode. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the option “7. USB RAID Mode” and press ENT. You will be prompted with: “Switch USB Mode? No”. Use an arrow key to toggle the selection to “Yes” and press ENT. The display should show: “USB Mode: Normal D1: HDD D2: HDD”. This confirms your disks have been detected and you are in USB mode. Within a few moments, your computer should automatically detect the drives and install drivers needed to access your drives. You should now be able to access your drives on your computer.

To undock your drives from your computer, you may simply disconnect your USB cable, power off the duplicator or exit USB mode. To safely remove your drives, power off the duplicator, wait for the drives to stop spinning and then disconnect your drives.

[Exiting USB mode]
To exit USB Mode, press ENT or ESC and “Duplicator Mode” will appear. Press ENT within a few seconds and you will be prompted with: “Back to Stand Alone mode? No”. Press an arrow key to toggle the selection to “Yes” and press ENT. You will hear a beep and the display will show: “Please wait..”. You will hear a short beep and the drives will be disconnected from your computer. When the display shows: “1. Copy HDD”, the duplicator will now be in Duplicator mode.

TIP: If drives are not showing up after the drivers installed, check the status of the drives with Disk Management on Windows computers or with Disk Utility on Mac computers.
